THE UNCERTAIN BEHAVIOUR OF CLOUDS (2021-

CLOUD FEEDBACK - silk, tapestry canvas, cotton, wire (2021) as photographed by the artist

The amount of the sun's energy that reaches the Earth's surface is the main driver of the Earth's temperature. Clouds are one of the least understood aspects of climate change.

The clouds are changing

The first sculpture of THE UNCERTAIN BEHAVIOUR OF CLOUDS series was created and exhibited whilst on residency at South Australia’s Sauerbier House,

It was then brought to Melbourne and exhibited as part of SHAPED - Craft Victoria’s 2021 end of year exhibition, with two works from the series included in PRESENT at the inaugural Melbourne Design Fair, March 2022.

Ongoing works in the series are currently available through CRAFT Victoria or by direct enquiry and site-responsive commissions are available via consultation.

2022 will continue to see me begin to build upon the existing body of work to begin to develop a small series of new "light and sculpture" objects that sit at the nexus of contemporary sculpture, environmental art and functional craft.

Using research around the concept of "Cloud Feedback" and how the clouds are changing, alongside meteorological/ atmospherical optics as inspiration, I hope to bring together complex material manipulations and sustainable design methodologies to create works not only embedded with form and function but that encourage deeper consideration about the environment we inhabit and our impact upon it. Sustainable design methodologies and environmental concerns are to be embedded into these works at every level. They will aim to embody a holistic design approach that will weave together artistic value, design integrity, social & environmental idealism and an understanding that the objects we make impact the world we place them in.
