BIOgraphy

I am an independent, multidisciplinary artist, born and raised in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, and am currently living and working from Wurundjeri country, in Narrm (Melbourne) Victoria, Australia.

My practice crosses realms of textile artistry, inhabitable sculpture, tactile installation, photographic, ephemeral, environmental and collaborative cross-disciplinary multi-form works.

With a background as a couturier and costumier, from late 2016 my focus pivoted from a career designing and creating avant-garde fashion and costume to pursue an art-based practice, dedicating myself to an experimental, cross-disciplinary approach that would free me from being locked into any one particular way of making things.

This has allowed more space for going into the unknown and the freedom to be imperfect.

My work is, at its very heart, exploratory and experimental - central themes include concepts of inhabitation, isolation, transmutation, relationship to self and the environment. Spatial disquiet, bodily distortion and dissolution, ephemerality and tactility are also key elements.

I am particularly interested in employing the deep connection of the human psyche to both material and touch from multiple perspectives: phenomenological, historical and ritual, as well as greater considerations of the environment surrounding body and inhabited form - not only reflecting self as other, discordant to its surrounds but increasingly investigating broader global social and environmental fears - both personal and political.

I am focused on investigating art and art-making as a means to push back against the archetype of human domination of nature and the centering of humans in every environment they find themselves, to encourage a more harmonious symbiosis between human and natural networks and a “dissolution” of human back into nature and environment.

My practice, past and present, is highly collaborative and has seen me produce work with fellow artists, both nationally and internationally, in the areas of sculpture, painting, photography, video, film, sound, dance, performance and installation art.

My specialised knowledge, exceptional workmanship and ability to apply this within an evolving contemporary art context, has seen me work with internationally recognized artists of various disciplines, assisting them to realise spatial design elements as well as tactile and textile aspects of their vision.
